Courtney vs. Nadiya
This was a really fun debate to watch. Courtney's argument was killer! She not only defined what it means to pursue happiness she studied her opponents historic figure and utilized such information during CX and rebuttal. Nadiya also did some brilliant analysis by being the first to use the Fifth Amendment and introducing the idea that slavery was a necessary evil. This was a hard debate to decide on but because Courtney was able to crack Nadiya's tough armor, she took the win. Thank you for presenting a wonderful debate to the class! Thanks for the book :)

This was a great debate. Courtney you had a great opening argument but not all of your arguments had a lot of evidence if any. I loves the argument that god doesn't beat his servants so why does the slave masters; making it sound like slave masters are considered to be god. I also liked that you used the first commandment that worship no other god but me. The cx was great also you let us know how Nadiya didn't really know her person when you asked her religion. Nadiya you had a very confusing opening argument I couldn't tell what your three arguments were. You got caught in the cx when you were asked your religion. You have to learn as much about your person as you can. Courtney used a lot of things out of the bible, you could have said that the bible isn't a good piece of evidence because it also says that slavery is ok because it has people that own slaves in it. i liked that you used the 5th amendment. Oh and you can't really use necessary evil without knowing much about christianity.
ReplyDeleteThis debate was incredible, it was one of the best we have seen so far. Courtney's opening statement was tremendous, showed more than enough evidence to impress the judges as well as myself. But nadiya used an argument that no has used before, she used the 5th amendment in one of her arguments and explaned how it benefits slavery and that slavery is needed because it is a necessary evil used to jumpstart our economy. This debate was incredible and i hope to see more like it.

Courtney i really would have liked if you used all of your time for your rebuttal , but other than that your debate was Great! Nadiya , you did a great job your self. I liked your CX , and the way you asked your questions.
ReplyDeleteAs a judge its harder on you because you have to determine who's side of the debate was stronger, but when both sides of the debates are strong you have to look at flaws. Courtney won because of her confidence, Nadiya's CX, and her religion argument. Nadiya's biggest flaw was taking over Courtney's CX disrespectfully. I believe by Nadiya forcing Courtney to stay on a topic that she did not want to stay on forced Nadiya to loose points. Yes, Nadiya did have a stronger rebuttal, but now I realize it's not always about having the last word. Nadiya forgot about good sportsman-ship which caused in way to loose major points. Congrats Courtney this debate was on fire! Courtney and Nadiya really set the bar high!

that was by far the best debate yet both of them hade a full under standing of the topick and both where well preparid i belive the only reason that nidiya lost is because Courtney over whelming edivence becides that every eals was even between them
ReplyDeleteIt was a great debate, but I don't really know what are Nadiya's 3 arguments. Both CX was great, they both got good questions, and they were able to answer the questions. And I like how Nadiya used the 5th amendment. Congrats to both debater.

ReplyDeleteThis debate was very enjoyable and interestin. One of the best debates so far. Coutney had a wonderful opening arguement that was very impressive and interesting to listen to. Nadiya also did very well and had an enjoyable opening statement. I liked both of there cross examinations exspecially since courney knew her opponents person very well. IN the end courtney won i belive that she deserved it but both debaters did a wonderful job.!!
ReplyDeleteThis debate was amazing because of the wonderful showmanship and evidence presented to the table on both sides. They were both obviously very well prepared. Courtney's opening was wonderful and veery easy to follow because of her outlined speech. She stated all three of her arguments and went into detail of it, presented evidence, and summed up the point she was trying to make and how it was relavant to that argument. She continued to present all three of her arguments in the same format which made it soooo much easier for me to follow. I usually find myself gettiing lost. Nadiya also had a very well organized speech. I like how she spoke in her Charachter alot, and kept the belife of being supreme to the slaves. Courtney's rebutal was bad. It was only 58 seconds long and lacked any type of statement appropriate for a rebutle. Nadiya had an o.k rebutle. Since Courtneys speech was better and she flaked on the rebutle, i saw this as Nadiays chance to reedem herself and possibly come in for the kill. But she only did so/so on it to me, because she failed to strongly point out why Courtneys arguments were wrong. They CX were really good! Courtney knowing her opponets historical figure wasa spuer plus. I learned alot from this debate and it was GREAT to watch. Good job guys.

This is definatly my favorite debate so far. courtney was VERY well prepaired as expected and it showed. she knew her speach very well, and it seemed like she even knew her apponents argument aswell because her cross examination was very good she knew exacltly what to say to stump nadiya.Nadiya did good on her opening but she seemed to get to emotinal which could take points away. but both sides had alot of evidence and knew how to use it. bu thank both of you for that great debate
ReplyDeleteThat was the best debate so far!! I really like how courtney answer the question during the CX.But it seems the rebuttal has some trouble in it.And Nadiya was doing a great job too..i really like how she ask the question. The debate was perfect!!!
ReplyDeletei loved this debate! Congrats to Courtney for bringing out a whole new argument about religion and bringing her bible evidence in too! It was about time someone brought something new out. And for Nadiya I thought you really did great! You had your confidence, your speech, how you CX. and all, You did a great job! Congrats to Court for the win.

ReplyDeleteTo me this debate was exciting. I have been waiting the whole week to see this debate which was so great. Courtney speech was great giving the deff of pusuit of happiness . Nadiya did great as well but she shouldn't have tried to take over courtney cx. Congrats to both
