The Great Slavery Debate
Should slavery be abolished? Students at Constitution High School debate the advantages and disadvantages of abolishing slavery from an antebellum 19th century perspective. Having students focus on the social, economic, cultural, and to some extent political nature of this debate, helps students understand the context of America's "peculiar institution", roadblocks African Americans needed to overcome in order to abolish slavery, as well as frame the upcoming 10th grade American history course. The purpose of this blog is to create a forum in which students can self-reflect and continue the process of peer-to-peer evaluation as they debate in class.

Lauren v. Briana
These two young women came up prepared! Almost too prepared. Both students had such elaborate arguments that they were unable to deliver all of them. Practice your timing. You want to learn how to research an argument, go to these two girls. It was amazing. Lauren did not respond to Briana calling her out on Madison owning slaves. Ouch. Listen and take notes during CX as well. Well done ladies!

i believe Lauren won because she was welled prepare and had alot of evidenced. but her debate was too long. it begin to bored me and lose my interest. Brianna was ok but she didnt really interest me.
ReplyDeleteThe reason why i think Lauren should have won because her arguments were a little stronger than briana's. But lauren should have shortening her first argument becuse she didnt have enough time to finish her second argument as good as she should have. Briana's debate was good but she didnt answer some of her question's like she should have. I think she was a little stuck.
ReplyDeleteI think Lauren won because she was well prepared with evidence, but her voice was kind of hard to hear at first, but then later on throughout the debate, she slowly but surely lifted her voice to make the entrie class could here. Then with Brianna she was well prepared as well, but with her voice it was hard to keep up with. Also during the CX, you should always keep a lookout on your opponents arguments and evidence, because something they might say help you, which in return you should capitalize on that opportunity given to you by your opponent.
