The Great Slavery Debate
Should slavery be abolished? Students at Constitution High School debate the advantages and disadvantages of abolishing slavery from an antebellum 19th century perspective. Having students focus on the social, economic, cultural, and to some extent political nature of this debate, helps students understand the context of America's "peculiar institution", roadblocks African Americans needed to overcome in order to abolish slavery, as well as frame the upcoming 10th grade American history course. The purpose of this blog is to create a forum in which students can self-reflect and continue the process of peer-to-peer evaluation as they debate in class.

I think that david won because Dylan had nothing to say to him. I'm just joking. But But david handle himself well.
ReplyDeleteahahahahah, sorry im not being very professional, but thatwas the best debate ever. Dylan was awesome, he had only 10 seconds left on the clock for his speech. He covered alot of ground. David didnt bad (sorry but its true) even though he was EXTREMELY unprepaed, e could have quickly looked through his reader because we had about 3 weeks to do all this. GOOD JOB DYLAN
ReplyDeleteI believe that Daylan was good at explaining his opening argument and he even was able to help out David who came unprepared to debate.Daylan proved that abolishing slavely would be the right thing to do.
ReplyDeleteDylan have a very strong and great argument, i thought it was really good. He stuck right to his 3 arguments. had a lot of evidence. I think he did a really good job.
ReplyDeletecongradulations Dylan.
This was kinda of a funny debate!dylan had a wonderful argument becausse for every thing he had spoken he had evidence for he said page 5 etc etc and he just had a greattt argument and david didnt not have any of his mattrials but he asked a question so that was some props for you but cant wait to see wht else going to happen.
ReplyDeletedylan won because david was not ready in the least he got 0.1 out of 10 for showing up but he get's another chance good for him but he could have tried easy point for dylan but next time david better have it together by steven furber
ReplyDeleteWOW guys thanks for the criticism, but really I deserved it. I did come unprepared and was not ready at all. But on the other hand Dylan did a great job and had awesome arguments, his whole speech with the christianity i did not expect that out of him!! Next time i know to come prepared. GREAT JOB DYLAN!
ReplyDeleteWow what a debate! Dylan had the best overall debate in our class so far. His opening statement clearly stated who his person was & his arguments against slavery. He went really deep into his Christianity argument by using the bible & documents to explain everything he said. He also had great questions and a fair rebuttal. Dylan also utilize his time very well & was organized. David on the other hand wasn't prepared, but at least he had the heart to go up & take the heat. Good job guys!
ReplyDeleteUmm yeah.. Even tough i wasn't there when they debated, i heard a lot of things and before i go on i want to say good job Dylan. His arguments was good and he also had evidence to back it up. But all i can say now is David WORK a little harder next time and maybe you will see the difference.
ReplyDeleteRespectfully, Erica Green
this debate was fun to watch because due to the fact that david came unprepared but he could had said something and asked question and not just stand there. Dylan had a great arguments even if david did come prepared he would had still lost because i didnt hear many holes in dylans arguments until brasof said some
