The Great Slavery Debate
Should slavery be abolished? Students at Constitution High School debate the advantages and disadvantages of abolishing slavery from an antebellum 19th century perspective. Having students focus on the social, economic, cultural, and to some extent political nature of this debate, helps students understand the context of America's "peculiar institution", roadblocks African Americans needed to overcome in order to abolish slavery, as well as frame the upcoming 10th grade American history course. The purpose of this blog is to create a forum in which students can self-reflect and continue the process of peer-to-peer evaluation as they debate in class.

Shayana v. Jessie
This was an evenly matched debate. Both debaters came strong with one argument each. The problem is that each argument canceled the other out and therefore it was very difficult to judge. All Jesse had and did do was throw in two more arguments and the rebuttal was strong enough. Congratulations to Jesse. Preparation is the key to success as the debate has taught us.

i thought that the debate between jessie and shayanna was really close. I think that they are both winners because it was such a close call. I believe that jessie won because she seemed a little more rganized and had more evidence. shayanna was great to, her cross examination was really good but her rebutal wasnt so strong. GOOD JOB GUYS!!
ReplyDeletethis debate was really done well.shayana had some really great come backs during the cx.jessie won this debate because she had a lot more evidence for her imformation.they both had one strong argument and they did not have 3 each but they both had one argument and they stuck to it with really great evidence!great job.
ReplyDeleteI think shayana sorta kind of should have won due to the fact that her cx question (why can't I sip on my wine while u sip yours) was good and jesse got stuck....
ReplyDeleteBoth girls did great! I liked how jessie stood strong and did not let shayana overpower her main point, Shayana gave a lot of evidence and stated lots of facts.
ReplyDeleteboth girls were great....shayana..she gave great details and i like the questions she asked...i believe if she wouldve kept asking good question she wouldve got jessie stukk alittle and jessie she gave great arguments great evidene and she stood hr ground during the debate
