Jasmine vs. Chris
What a great analytical debate! These two students were not only prepared to debate, but were able to think on their feet and analyze each others arguments. This is what I am looking for. Now some interesting aspects of debate came out today. Chris allowed Jasmine to fumble around a bit during the CX. When Jasmine CX Chris, she was able to control him. Crew, remember that when you CX someone, its your time to examine arguments. If you feel your opponent is wasting time, then feel free to cut them off and move on. Jasmine did this effectively today without being rude. The against slavery side is going to learn how to handle the idea that slaves were "the happiest in the world...." evidence. As I hinted today, do similar analytical techniques that Jasmine displayed when challenging the mudsill theory. What did she do? She called it a theory. But in a larger sense, she challenged the authenticity of the document itself. Hmmmmm..... If Chris would have supplied a little more evidence to why Jasmine's economic argument was wrong, he would have won this debate. Rebuttals matter. These were the best rebuttals so far but improvement is necessary to make this class the ultimate debaters. Congratulations to both debaters.

I really enjoyed this debate both jasmine and chris did a great job and used alot of evidence. It was interesting watching their cross examinations and rebutals.As far as speaking goes both debaters spoke loud enough but jasmine was speaking just alittle to fast for me to catch on but i some what understood. In the end both debaters walked off with a well deserved win. The first debate so far with a tie.
ReplyDeletethe debate was a good one both gave an abundance of evidence along with strong rebutals jasmines was stronger because she slowed down and talk very cleary but in her speach was a littl fast and chris know his stuff and was able to kind of hold him self when jasmine was cross examination
ReplyDeleteThis was one of the best debates so far. Both Jasmine and Chris used a lot of evidence and knew their packets very well. I liked how during the CX Chris got Jasmine to admit that her person got his education through slavery. That's how Chris really got Jasmine. If she knew her person a little more then he wouldn't of had that one on her. I also liked how they both challenged the inhuman argument. Overall i enjoyed the debates and thought both Jasmine and Chris did a great job.
ReplyDelete"Thank you your wasting my time" - Jasmine Montebon. This was a close match and highered the bar. Both brang good evidence, but I would have gave Jasmine the win because her control of the CXs. Idk if that's a bias on my behalf or not. Good debate overall , however a second rebutal or sudden death would of brang more intrest to this one. So these two brang they're A game and I'm next. Congrads on the tie. -B.Meagher
ReplyDeleteThe debate was good. And chris and jasmine both know their person and the packet very well. Both them use a lot evidence for their speech and support their arguements.

ReplyDelete@Brasof - Thanks for the comments? Haha, but during other debates before me, I took in hand to jot down some tips & advice you've told us to do. For example, 'say thank you,' 'dont let your opponent take your time,' and to restate arguments and what not. I'm very glad it was done with, and i also had a lot of fun debating. I believe this is actually my first time debating, and wooh what a thrill.

this was a great debate great job to jasmine and chris... chris u gave three very strong arguments very well unfortunitly they were very similar to each other. so it was very easy for jasmine to counter them because once one went down they all kinda went down. jasmine you gave a very good inhumain argument but chris's humain argument contridickted it and your first argument got wiped out by chris's first argument. but you also had a economic argument with evidence that chris tried to atack but he was not able to provide evidence and this is why jasmine won the debat... great job to both of you

ReplyDeleteThey both did a good job today, they both used a lot of evidence, and their CX are good too. Jasmine was spoke clear, but just little fast in her opening argument. And I was agree with David and Mr.Brasof today, Chris's three arguments was too similar, if one of the argument fall, the other arguments will probably fall too.
ReplyDeleteIn my eyes, this was the best debate yet! I was surprised that Jasmine was a bit shy in the beginning but after awhile, she took her time and got chris during the CX and how she cut him off after she got the answers that she needed. Chris on the other hand, i think he let jasmine off a bit easy, he should have used Jasmine's 3/5 of a man's arguments and twisted that around a bit. But you guys really did a tremendous job! Hopeeefully you guys can debatee again :D
ReplyDeleteThis debate was very intriguing and as a judge, it was very hard to vote.Both debaters critically analyzed the subject and canceled out at least two of the other persons arguments. Christopher killed her in the Cx. But she got them in the general opening argument.!

THIS WAS A MARVELOUS DEBATE! The way I see is that the opener where great for both side with the mass of evidence both side produce it was close to an even match. Jasmine who had one an one argument that was different and that was the economy one which gave her a slight advantage over Chris. The CX was the only part that I hated the reason are for Jasmine you don't ask enough questions and one of them was really(IMAO) weird and I don't understand why you ask that question. This is where Chirs and my mind take the lead because he ask a question that Jasmine can't or don't want to answer. This caused a ZONE OF TWILIGHT which I believe help Chris caught up to Jasmine. The rebuttals, which i'm happy about because you take longer then most students so far, where powerful. Jasmine try the Inhumane thing but Chris already defended against it in his rebuttal which was first(planning ahead the sign of a good general).The only thing I think Chris did wrong was take his time looking for evidence in a closed packet or on a piece of paper that was turn over are something like that.It the truth and the truth always in some way hurts

I want to congratulate both debaters. It was hard to tell which one was going to win because they both supplied great amount of evidence. Jasmine made a great point saying that the mudsill theory was just a theory. Chris did well also explaining and tying his three reasons together.
ReplyDeleteBeing a judge is fun. The judges actually had to vote and make it a tie. I believe Chris won because he forced Jasmine to believe that slavery benefited slaves. He also won because Jasmine did not say why slaves masters should care, after Chris asked "why should we care." I believe if she would have explained why they should care she would have taken home the gold!

The debate between Jasmine and Chris was very good. They both did a good job they both made each other stumble in some point which was good because some of the other debates did not do that. For me it was really hard to decide on who won because they both had a lot of supporting details and evidence so I think they did a good job.
ReplyDeleteLol, i was shocked when sweet old jasmine said "excuse me your wasting my time" -brilliant. This was a hard debate to judge, you both had strong arguments, and had good cross examination techniques. i love ya'll. chris i voted for you because of the CX where jasmine kept asking you what was the question, and it made her a little weaker. But rebuttals were good, they could have been better at knocking out each other's arguments.
